BILLYS old BROWNIE SNAPS

Bob King

My name is Bob King born in Kensington, Liverpool in 1932. I first went to sea in 1950 aged 17 as a galley boy on the Arabia.
I then went on to serve on the Franconia, Empress of Australia, Ocean Monarch, Queen of Bermuda, Asconia, Queen Mary, Empress of France, Empress of Scotland, Edinburgh Castle and others.

If anyone wishes to contact me that would be great. I would particularly like to hear from Gordon Southward who I have unsuccessfully been trying to trace

I have been asking around for any of the lads…LADS…ok… anyone who is still with us… if they had any pictures of the movie stars…and important people who sailed with us during the fifties…the only guy who seemed to have any was Billy Harrison…if you look through this site at the pictures you will know that Billy has more than anyone…it seems that he was the chronicler of our youth through the fifties and sixties…he gave me some that he could find out of the many hundreds he has… me…like most of the lads never owned a camera…the couple of pictures I own from those years…other lads took them…all five of them

Here are a dozen that Billy sent me…who knows. There may be one or two of still around who will remember sailing with them…

Her Majesty. The Queen Mother a frequent and very popular guest on the Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth in the 50s…with the Executive Chef… wonder if she was checking the menu…

Another one…different voyage…but always time to speak to members of the crew

Noel Coward and Debbie Reynolds…Debbie was with her husband Eddie Fisher…and Liz Taylor and her husband Mike Todd…

Deborah Kerr…prim and proper…I don't think she had made From Here to Eternity at that…but what a beautiful barmaid…

Pearl Bailey…A great singer and fantastic personality

Another picture from the same trip…

Liberace…in the Officers Mess…again one of the many stars who mixed with the crew…well with the senior staff…

Clark Gable was another frequent traveller on the Queens…this is a picture in 1955 with the Chief Officer…

Here is another picture of Gable…judging the crew boxing match...

The last of The Red Hot Mommas…Sophie Tucker…with some of the kitchen staff. I don't think the lady with the glasses was one of them…

Field Marshall Montgomery…and guests…

Three Cool Cats…Ronnie Greer…Tommy Steele…and Ivan Hayward…long before the Mersey sound was heard...

Mr Yank Godden with Tony Bennett…so he says…I wonder who he was hiding from under that beard…

Franconia…I think 54 or 55…looking for info on this crowd…

A bunch of the lads in the pig…again 54or 55 again looking for names. please…

These guys I know…Jimmy(bongo)Briggs…with I think Terry Late on Guitar…the base player I don't remember…the Reina del Mar 56…

I haven't any idea who these young commis are…but I believe the ship was the Scythia…can't figure out who they are supposed to be serving…can you…

Same crowd cleaning up the dining room…a smart looking crowd…come on…someone must recognise them…

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mr and Mrs Rooney holidaying down south I believe…when Gerry was on the Sylvania…look very smart don't they…this should have gone in Rooney's Rambling…but the kid lost it..never mind…better late than never…

Football team on the Reina del Pacifico…1955…it seems they couldn't afford a strip…back row…a.n.other…Billy Harper…Albert Moorcroft…Tony Scoggins…Frankie Crane…and our lad Vinnie…front row…Joe Ireland…Peter Caffrey…Terry O'Neil…Billy Peters…a.n.other

Ye local Coffee House in Valparaiso…
The Scandi Bar…I have lost the names of these guys…and can only remember Billy Renshaw…sorry…but I am not to sure what I haf for breakfast…
anyway someone will tell me…and I will rectify my omission…
